      Abstract

With the increasing popularity of clean and low-carbon energy transition, the large-scale development and utilization of renewable energy, and the rapid development of distributed energy, energy storage, electric vehicles, and other interactive energy facilities, various new forms of energy use continue to emerge. To cope with climate change, developing renewable energy represented by wind and photovoltaic has become an inevitable choice. The new-type power system has become an important trend and focus. To improve the operational safety and data accuracy of the power system, the United States has implemented the “Grid2030” plan, aiming to realize a seamless connection of“source network load storage.” To improve the management of power grid informatization, South Korea, Japan, and other countries have heavily invested in combining power network systems with information networks and strengthening the application of research results.Artificial intelligence (AI)technology can serve all aspects of the new-type power system, fully permeating modern information technologies and advanced communication technologies, such as sensor technology, network interconnection technology, and platform technology.Subsequently, it promotes the comprehensive perception and universal interconnection of the power grid information fusion and application intelligence. It plays an important role in the integration of the energy and digital revolutions, digital transformation of power grids, and evolution of new-type power system.

This special issue includes two columns, application of AI algorithms in new-type power system and smart grid.In the first column, articles discuss AI technologies in new-type power system, such as multi-agent deep reinforcement learning, cuckoo search and grey wolf optimizer, RF-combination weighting and improved TOPSIS method.Authors applied these improved algorithms to many fields, such as PV system, insulation state evaluation, and integrated energy system, which all provide a reference for the development of new-type power system. In the second column, authors explained smart distribution network evaluation and power system positioning method using different AI methods.
