Abstract
Recently, major energy consuming countries around the world have put forward specific carbon peak and carbon neutralization targets, and there is a promotion trend in energy cleaning and electrification. Many international research institutes predict that by 2050,electricity will account for 50% of global end-use energy consumption, while the renewable energy generation accounting for 85% of total electric power generation. Therefore, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power system in the energy transition process is a prerequisite and basis for ensuring that carbon emission targets can be achieved.
Wind power and photovoltaic power generation are the most important power supplies in the future, but they are characterized by randomness, volatility and poor anti-interference,which bring great challenges to both the source and network side of the new power system. It is necessary to enhance the new energy consumption capacity through reasonable power supply planning, different network forms and new power market patterns, and then to improve the operation and control capacity of the power grid through flexible control strategies, artificial intelligence, optimization theory, energy internet and other technologies. Finally,to realize the safe and stable operation of power system with high penetration of the renewable energies.
In view of the above trends, the Journal of Global Energy Interconnection has organized a special issue entitled “Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development”.This issue contains 10 articles from power grid companies, leading research institutions and universities, including State Grid Corporation of China,Hong Kong Polytechnic University,China Electric Power Research Institute,Shandong University,University of International Business and Economics, and Dalian University of Technology. The above-mentioned articles mainly cover the areas of low-carbon power system planning, operation and control of power grids containing large-scale renewable energy, and energy internet.
This special issue covers a variety of topics.First, the impact of new energy integration is analyzed from the perspective of static voltage control and optimal system operation based on the characteristics of wind power and photovoltaic power generation. Then, the sourcegrid cooperative disaster prevention planning,low-carbon power system power planning, and HVDC transmission control strategies considering the intermittency of new energy sources are discussed from the perspective of renewable energy power planning. Finally, the economics of power heating, architecture design of the power internet of things and heterogeneous energy trading technologies are analyzed from the power market perspective.
We believe that this special issue and the presented papers will help to promote the exploration and understanding of future power systems containing high penetration of renewable energy sources, thus facilitating the sustainable development of energy cleaning translation and energy electrification.
